Customer Reviews

If you only buy one DVD this year...5
...directed by Nick Whitfield and starring Tuppence Middleton (among others, but y'know she's the prettiest) then it's undoubtedly this one. Unless since writing this review he's done another film with Tuppence in.

But I digress. Frequently.

This review is solely about the film and not the quality of the DVD product. I can't comment on that as it's not out yet. I wonder though, if you're looking this up you're really just trying to confirm your own thoughts on the film or are you genuinely looking for advice? For what it's worth, here's my Tuppence worth (Groan - Everyone).

I'm generally not a fan of UK cinema, despite being a UKenzian. Pretty much every film in the UK is about miserable poor people struggling through life or some wishy washy romantic comedy (actually I quite like those). Skeletons isn't. It's different. Very different.

It's an experience. It's not a comedy. It's not a drama. It's a mysterious mixture of both. It's also a huge slab of perfection.

From opening moments you're stunned by beautiful cinematography, a director and director of photography partnership that manage to display the English countryside (Peak District, location fans!) in a way that it seems magical and otherworldy. A way you've never seen before. Though the film is about the people and their journeys through the surreal and unusual situations it is about the countryside at the same time as, after seeing it, you couldn't imagine it taking place anywhere else.

If you've not seen it, prepare to be engaged on many different levels at the same time. Emotional and intellectual stimulation is on offer in abundance. Though undoubtedly best viewed at the cinema, I expect the home viewing to reveal new layers that were previously unseen.

So if you're looking for buying advice, buy it. Obviously. No matter what price it is right now. Duh. Didn't I make that obvious?

P.S. Hello to Jason Isaacs!
