DVD Description
During the Second World War, over a million American soldiers were stationed in England. Their presence touched the lives of people in even the smallest villages. Yanks is the story of some of the relationships which grew out of the American invasion of a small northern English town during the grim wartime days. It’s a moving story of two similar and yet very different cultures coming together, warily at first but with growing respect and friendship and sometimes, even love.

Yanks delves into the experience of three Americans: Matt (Richard Gere), John (William Devane) and Danny (Chick Vennera) and the relationships they have with three English women: Jean (Lisa Eichhorn), Helen (Vanessa Redgrave) and Mollie (Wendy Morgan). It’s a tale of happiness and heartbreak and hope for the future.

Synopsis
From early 1942 until D-Day, several million Americans landed in Britain on their way to fight at the European front. To the war-weary British, many of these troops were "overpaid and oversexed." But despite the resentment, with thousands of men abroad, the stage was set for romantic dalliances between English women and American soldiers stationed in the countryside. The film follows several relationships that blossom during this tense period: the older and more mature Helen and John maintain a sexually tense but chaste friendship, while impetuous Mollie and Danny cast caution and clothing aside without a care. And Jean and Matt begin a serious, thoughtful love affair, although Jean has a boyfriend who's serving overseas. But eventually war intercedes, and the soldiers must leave their new romances to go off to battle.
